Gov. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa has adjusted the restriction on the movement of commercial tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, in Yola North, Yola South, and Girei Local Government Areas to facilitate Ramadan activities.
The restriction, which previously ran from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., will now be enforced from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily throughout the Ramadan fasting period.
In a statement on Monday, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said the adjustment was made to enable Muslim faithful to attend Tafsir sessions without hindrance.
He recalled that the state government imposed the movement restriction under Executive Order No.1 of 2021 as part of security measures.
Wonosikou said that in recognition of the significance of Ramadan, the governor deemed it necessary to ease the restriction temporarily.
He added that Fintiri had directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and enhance operations in the affected areas by deploying additional personnel to safeguard lives and property.
The governor also warned that violators of the law would face sanctions and urged residents to remain law-abiding to sustain the progress made in fostering peaceful coexistence.
