In a bid to support vulnerable and less privileged Muslims during the holy month of Ramadan, the Yobe State Government has announced a significant initiative to provide daily iftar (feeding) for 16,800 individuals in need.
Alhaji Yusuf Umar, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Ethical Re-orientation in Yobe State, revealed this development during a press briefing in Damaturu while overseeing the distribution of food items to food vendors and contractors.
The commissioner shared that the Ramadan feeding program is projected to cost over N100 million, emphasizing the government’s commitment to catering to the nutritional needs of the less fortunate during this sacred period.
Furthermore, Umar highlighted that food supplies and essential ingredients have been allocated to food vendors and contractors to facilitate the smooth operation of the feeding program.
Notably, the state government has expanded the feeding centers from 67 to 84, with each center expected to provide meals for a minimum of 200 individuals daily.
In ensuring transparency and accountability, Umar affirmed that the government would closely monitor all activities related to the feeding program to ensure adherence to ethical standards and proper distribution of resources.
He urged food vendors and contractors to exhibit compassion, honesty, and selflessness in carrying out their duties, emphasizing the importance of upholding integrity and empathy in serving the community during this period of giving and reflection.
