Residents of Yamwe and VII communities in Adamawa State have called on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and the state government to urgently intervene in the rehabilitation of the Yamwe/VII Road.
In an open letter addressed to the governor and made available to journalists, the residents expressed concern over the poor state of the road, which was constructed just two years ago but has reportedly undergone nearly five maintenance works due to substandard construction.
They lamented that the road lacks proper drainage systems, thereby exposing schools and homes in the area to flooding and erosion.
“The Yamwe/VII Road, instead of serving as a blessing, has become a source of hardship to the community. The rehabilitation carried out recently was done in bits and pieces, with substandard materials such as quarter rods used in place of standard specifications,” the residents alleged.
They further explained that the fragile state of the road, compounded by the area’s sloppy terrain, demands stronger reinforcement and holistic reconstruction with quality materials that meet engineering standards.
The residents also disclosed that appeals had been made to Hon. Zakaria Dauda Nyampa, Member of the House of Representatives, and Hon. Moses Yerima, a State Assembly Member, but no meaningful action had been taken.
“This is about the safety, education, and wellbeing of the people of Yamwe and VII. We humbly appeal to Governor Fintiri and the relevant state ministries to treat this matter as a priority,” the statement read.
They urged the government to ensure that any future intervention on the road is durable, properly engineered, and equipped with standard drainage systems.
