Sen. Aminu Iya Abbas (PDP-Adamawa Central) has called for a tactical overhaul of security operations to address the resurgence of insurgency in the Northeast, particularly in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.
Speaking on a motion he raised on the floor of the Senate on Friday, Abbas expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation, especially recent attacks in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa, which he represents.
He said several lives had been lost in renewed Boko Haram attacks in the area, warning that the group’s activities were spreading to previously secure communities.
“Our security forces are trying, but we urge them to consider changing tactics or reworking their plan. This is not a challenge limited to Borno and Yobe—Adamawa is also severely affected,” he said.
Abbas, who chairs the Senate Committee on Innovation, Science and Technology, urged the Federal Government to urgently deploy more troops to the region, equipped with advanced technology and logistics support.
The Senate adopted the motion and directed its Committees on Army and Air Force to ensure implementation and oversight of the recommended interventions.
The lawmaker emphasized that renewed commitment was necessary to safeguard lives and restore peace to affected communities in the Northeast.
