Senator Lawan Condoles Gwange Fire Victims, Announces Relief Package

The Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, SAN, has sympathised with victims of the devastating fire outbreak that razed upholstery and carpentry workshops along Gwange Latin–Enbauchi Street in Maiduguri.

Senator Lawan paid the sympathy visit on Sunday, accompanied by the Member representing Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) at the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Ali Kotoko; the Special Adviser on Monitoring, Engr. Gujbawu; and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Executive Committee.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the senator described the fire disaster as a painful loss that affected livelihoods and families within the community.

He offered prayers for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and asked Allah to grant the bereaved families the strength to cope with their losses.

Senator Lawan recalled his engagement with the community during the electioneering period, noting that it was important to return and stand with them in their moment of grief. He reassured the victims of his continued support and commitment to their welfare.

As part of an immediate intervention, the senator announced relief assistance to 21 victims affected by the inferno, comprising 11 shops and six houses. Each beneficiary received ₦250,000 as cash support to help cushion the impact of the disaster and aid recovery efforts.

Speaking on behalf of the victims, their chairman expressed appreciation to Senator Lawan for the timely visit and financial assistance, while appealing for additional support from relevant authorities.

In response, the senator assured them that he would convey their concerns to the Borno State Government for further intervention.
