Nine local government areas in northern Yobe State have been rendered inaccessible due to severe flooding, cutting off roads linking them to the state capital, Damaturu.
The affected LGAs are Bursari, Geidam, Yunusari, Bade, Yusufari, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Nguru, and Machina.
The two main routes linking the northern flank of the state, around Jumbam in Tarmuwa LGA and Tarajim village in Nangere LGA, were also cut off due to the flood.
Yobe State Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, visited one of the cut-off roads in Jumbam village, Tarmuwa LGA, for an on-the-spot assessment. He sympathized with the community and directed the Ministry of Works to construct a temporary bridge to facilitate movement.
Gubana also directed the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to the victims in the affected areas.
