The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has expressed support for the newly introduced Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF) Loan while calling on the Federal Government to pay two months of withheld salaries and improve the welfare of university staff.
Mr. Abubakar Aliyu, National Vice President of SSANU, made this known on Thursday in Abuja during the official launch of the TISSF Loan.
Aliyu said SSANU welcomed the initiative, stressing that the association, being a melting pot of professionals, was not averse to government policies that could ease the burden on its members.
He, however, urged the Federal Government to complement the loan scheme with improved salaries and the immediate release of the outstanding withheld salaries.
“Now is the time for government to honor the 2009 agreement and improve the welfare of staff, so that members can comfortably repay the loan and meet their obligations,” he said.
The TISSF Loan was launched as part of government’s efforts to provide financial support for workers in tertiary institutions across the country.
