The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has directed its branch chairmen to issue letters of introduction to members seeking to access the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF).
In a circular signed by the General Secretary, Comrade Chukwuanugo Ibeto, the union instructed that such letters should only be given to financial members whose commitments to the union were up to date.
The circular explained that the loans available under the scheme would be interest-free, urging branch leaders to guide members accordingly and ensure compliance.
While noting that SSANU was not consulted during the initiation of the scheme, the leadership said it was not opposed to any initiative aimed at easing the burden of Nigerian workers.
The union, however, maintained that its outstanding demands from the Federal Government remain the payment of withheld salaries, arrears from the 25 and 35 per cent salary increments, backlog of wage awards, and the renegotiation of the 2009 SSANU/FG agreement.
The circular was issued on behalf of the National President, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim.
