A devastating suicide attack occurred at a wedding gathering in Marrarraban Gwoza, Borno State, claiming the lives of 6 civilians and injuring 15 others. The bomber, a young woman in her early twenties, detonated her explosive device in the midst of the gathering, causing chaos and destruction.
According to intelligence sources, the victims were returning from a wedding celebration when the attack occurred near a busy motor park. Emergency services promptly responded to the scene, rescuing the injured and transporting them to hospitals in Gwoza.
Medical personnel confirmed that at least 6 people were killed, while 15 others sustained injuries in the attack. The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, has also confirmed the incident.
The attack took place at T Junction in Marrarraban Gwoza, a bustling area in the state. The suicide bomber, a female in her early twenties, targeted the social gathering, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.
According to a survivor, the first bomber was carrying a baby on her back when she stormed the venue and detonated the IED.
The wedding was held on Saturday at Tashan Mararaba near the Fire Service in Gwoza town.
The bomber identified as a young mother in her twenties pretended to be a guest at the wedding.
While trying to bury the dead persons, another bomber disguised as a mourner detonated an IED at the burial ground, killing one person.
The military has, as a result of the explosions, declared a curfew in Gwoza with immediate effect.
Security agencies are also yet to comment on the incident as of now.
Attempts to speak with the spokespersons of North-East Joint Taskforce Operations Hadin Kai and that of the 7 Division and Sector One OPHK have not been successful as they didn’t pick up their calls.
