Taraba Assembly Approves N6bn for Take-Off of Tropical Agricultural University

The Taraba State House of Assembly has approved the sum of ₦6 billion for the commencement of the Tropical Agricultural University in Gembu, Sardauna Local Government Area of the state.

The approval was granted during a plenary session of the Assembly, paving the way for the take-off of the proposed institution, which is expected to play a key role in boosting agricultural education and research in Taraba State.

The approved funds will be used to support critical start-up activities of the university, including infrastructure development, academic planning and administrative setup. The institution is also expected to serve as a hub for tropical agriculture research, focusing on improved farming practices, food security and sustainable agricultural development.

Lawmakers noted that the establishment of the university would expand access to higher education, particularly in agricultural and allied disciplines, while also creating employment opportunities for residents of the state.

The Tropical Agricultural University is projected to stimulate economic activities in Gembu and surrounding communities, as well as strengthen Taraba State’s position as a leading agricultural producer in the country.

The Assembly expressed confidence that the investment would yield long-term benefits for the state, especially in the areas of human capital development, innovation and economic growth.
