Taraba Begins Another Phase of Free Fertilizer Distribution, Unveils New Agricultural Initiative

The Taraba State Government has commenced a new round of free fertilizer distribution to farmers across the state, as part of its broader efforts to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security.

Governor Agbu Kefas, who announced the initiative on Thursday, said the exercise aligns with his administration’s strategic plans to expand and develop the agricultural sector.

“This is another step forward in our commitment to empower farmers and transform Taraba into a leading agricultural hub,” Kefas said in a statement.

In addition to the fertilizer programme, the governor disclosed plans to establish the Taraba Initiative for Farm Land and Forest Occupation, a state-backed framework aimed at enhancing land use efficiency and optimising productivity in the agro-forestry sector.

The initiative, which will soon be presented as a bill to the Taraba State House of Assembly, is to be chaired by the Emir of Muri, HRH Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida.

Kefas noted that the new scheme would consolidate the state’s gains in agriculture and support sustainable land management while addressing the challenges of encroachment, underutilisation, and land-related disputes.

“Our administration has achieved notable agricultural milestones through strategic revitalisation efforts, and we remain committed to doing more,” the governor said.

The distribution of fertilizers is expected to reach thousands of smallholder farmers across the 16 local government areas of the state, with a focus on supporting wet season farming and improving yields.

Governor Kefas urged beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs and reaffirmed his government’s determination to create wealth and jobs through agriculture.
