Taraba Commissioner, Nagombe, Awards Scholarship To 50 Tertiary Students In Gashaka

In accordance with Gov Kefas’ free education and priority to enhance access to quality education in Taraba State, the Commissioner, ministry of Heritage and Ecotourism, Hon Joseph Titus Nagombe has given scholarship to 50 tertiary students from Gashaka LGA.

The 50 beneficiaries who were selected through a rigorous screening process includes male and female from the 10 wards across the local government area of the commissioner.

Speaking during the presentation at NUT Hall, Serti, Gashaka LGA, the commissioner stated that many students because of their parents inability to pay their tuition fees dropped out of school which led to some becoming drug addicts, or indulging in other forms of crimes and criminality in the society. He said, it was on this note, Gov Kefas declared free education and half tuition payments for all Tertiary Students in the state.

The commissioner divulged that his intention to award scholarship to tertiary students in Gashaka was on the fact that Gashaka was ranked on group A among Local Governments in the state with less educated people as such, it became a necessity to help the students in his local Government area, noting that, the scholarship program will be by batch as God permits.

In his remarks, the former Chairman of Gashaka Hon Muhammad Idi Mai-Iyali described Nagombe as a Unifier and a proud son of the soil who is very proud of for this gesture, noting that, he loves to identify with leaders who prioritize education because he is a product of scholarship and during his tenure, he has awarded scholarship to some students who today are having their degree certificates.

Mai Iyali enjoined the people of Gashaka to give Nagombe the support he needs to succeed and to invest in Education as education is the tool for development per excellence.

Aside the beneficiaries, the hall was filled to the brim with indigenous people of GASHAKA who came to catch a glimpse of the wonders Nagombe is doing in Gashaka which was described as the first of its kind by a commissioner when some bared their minds.

The event was attended by cream of Gashaka ranging from the Executive Chairman of Gashaka, Hon Umar Yusuf, the three Chiefs of Gashaka: Lamdo Gashaka ably represented by HRH Yerima Hayatu, Kur Garabi, HRH. Alh Salihu umar and Third Class Kum Ndola of Mayo Selbe, HRH. Thomas Maiyanga, former commissioners, advisers, former and present councilors among others.
