Taraba State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Augustina Godwin, has expressed her disappointment and concern over the denial of WAEC and NECO exams to some students in the state.
During a surprise visit to Government Day Secondary School Salihu Dogo and Government Day Secondary School Kofai, Dr. Godwin discovered that some students were asked to pay school fees despite the free education policy of Governor Agbu Kefas.
She condemned the actions of saboteurs of the policy and promised to take action against those responsible.
The Commissioner’s visit was prompted by public outcry following the suspension of principals accused of negligence and sabotage in the implementation of the free education initiative.
During her visit, she addressed the students and assured them that her ministry would investigate the allegations and ensure that those responsible would face the consequences.
Dr. Godwin emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of vulnerable children, particularly those from poor backgrounds whose parents cannot advocate for them.
She expressed her determination to defend these children, even at personal risk, and condemned those within the educational system who sought to undermine these efforts.
The Commissioner’s stance is clear: the protection and education of children must be prioritized. She urged the school authorities to remain steadfast and assured them of her continued support in fighting for the rights of students.
The community members and parents present during the visit expressed their gratitude for the Commissioner’s intervention and hoped that her actions would bring about a positive change in the administration of the school exams.
