The opening of the Daisy Danjuma Eye Hospital, which was built by a retired military officer, Lieutenant General Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), was attended by several dignitaries, including monarchs and top politicians during the week.
The hospital, which is situated in Takum, Taraba State, was formally opened by the state governor, Agbu Kefas.
Speaking at the event, Governor Kefas commended Danjuma for his developmental initiatives in the state. He also gave an assurance of his administration’s commitment to bringing the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
He said, “I appreciate the generosity of the general, as well as the staff of the hospital for their efforts. I pray that God will continue to bless them.”
On his part, Danjuma, who is a one-time Chief of Army Staff, appreciated all those who graced his occasion, while praying for peace in the country.
“We must have peace in our land, so that the young men and women will not be running away to other places in search of jobs. There are no jobs anywhere, and many of them actually go abroad to suffer. I am also of the opinion that there is nowhere in the world where the black man can have the quality of life he can get in Nigeria.
“May God bless our governors, traditional rulers and all the people who are helping to keep us together,” he said.
Other guests at the event include the Taraba Deputy Governor, Aminu Alkali; Chairman of the Middle Belt Forum, Zamani Lawcot; a former Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Prof Suleiman Bogoro; some members of the National Assembly, as well as first-class chiefs, led by the Aku Uka of Wukari and Chairman of the Taraba State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Manu Ishaku Adda Ali.
