Taraba Gov Meets Tinubu In Aso Rock

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, on Monday visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in what marks his first official engagement at the Presidency since defecting to the All Progressives Congress.

Kefas arrived at the Villa around 2 pm, accompanied by the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and proceeded straight to a closed-door meeting with the President, PUNCH observed.

The visit comes two weeks after the governor suspended a planned APC reception slated for November 19, citing the need to avoid political celebrations amid the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga, Kebbi State.

The Taraba governor’s defection follows a similar move by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and 15 lawmakers, who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC, saying they needed to “align with the centre” amid growing turbulence in the opposition party at the national level.

Kefas, a retired lieutenant colonel and former board chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, won the Taraba governorship under the PDP in the March 2023 elections. He previously served as the state party chairman before emerging as its governorship candidate.

His visit also comes at a time when the APC is intensifying efforts to woo key opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections, with insiders hinting at more high-profile defections from the North and Middle Belt.
