Taraba Gov Moves to Resolve Mosque Ownership Dispute in Donga

Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba has taken steps to restore peace in Donga Local Government Area following a lingering dispute over the ownership of the central mosque in the town.

The governor disclosed this during a peace meeting held on Friday at the palace of the Gara Donga, HRH Amb. Sanvala Shimbura Verzoa, which brought together leaders of various Islamic sects, traditional rulers, religious authorities, and security agencies.

Kefas said the move was part of his administration’s commitment to fostering unity, tolerance, and lasting peace among residents of the state.

As part of the resolution, the governor announced plans to build three new mosques for the sects involved in the dispute, while the contested central mosque would remain closed until further notice.

He directed leaders of the sects to submit cost proposals to facilitate the prompt commencement of construction.

“Our duty as a government is to identify effective ways to resolve disputes expeditiously when they arise. There won’t be development when people can’t live with one another,” Kefas said.

The governor urged Muslims in Donga to embrace love, brotherhood, and obedience to the words of Allah, emphasizing that peaceful coexistence was vital to the state’s progress.
