Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the disbursement of ₦1.6 billion to the 16 local government councils in the state for the execution of the 2026 Kefas Coordinated Projects.
The governor presented cheques of ₦100 million each to the 16 Local Government Chairmen at a ceremony in Jalingo, describing the move as part of his administration’s strategy to accelerate grassroots development and deepen inclusive governance.
Kefas said the initiative was designed to ensure uniform and sustainable development across all councils, while giving local governments the flexibility to address priority needs peculiar to their communities.
According to him, meaningful development can only be achieved when local councils are adequately funded, empowered and held accountable, stressing that the coordinated projects framework would promote balanced growth across the state.
The governor explained that the funds were meant to serve as a catalyst for high-impact projects in critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment and local economic development.
He emphasized that transparency, accountability and prudent use of public funds would remain non-negotiable, adding that the success of the programme would be assessed based on visible and measurable outcomes.
Kefas further warned that his administration would closely monitor the implementation of the projects to ensure value for money and strict adherence to the objectives of the coordinated projects.
In separate remarks, the 16 Local Government Chairmen expressed appreciation to the governor for what they described as an unprecedented show of confidence in grassroots administration.
They pledged to deploy the funds responsibly towards projects that would improve infrastructure, stimulate local economies, create jobs and enhance access to basic social services.
Political observers and development stakeholders described the intervention as timely, noting that direct funding of local councils would strengthen grassroots governance and accelerate socio-economic development across Taraba State.
As preparations for the 2026 Coordinated Projects intensify, residents across the state have expressed optimism that the initiative will translate into improved public services and better living conditions.
