Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State on Friday led a high-powered federal delegation to Yaoundé, Cameroon, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a strategic mission aimed at strengthening cross-border security cooperation between both countries.
The visit marks Governor Kefas’ first major national assignment under President Tinubu’s administration—an indication of his rising prominence within Nigeria’s security framework and his deep grasp of regional security challenges, particularly along the Nigeria–Cameroon border corridor.
The Nigerian delegation included former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Abdullahi Yahaya Abubakar; Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena; former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah; and Col. Kwelle Joshua (Rtd.), Special Adviser on Security Intelligence.
During engagements with senior Cameroonian officials, discussions focused on enhancing border security, boosting intelligence sharing, and establishing joint operational mechanisms to counter cross-border threats. According to officials, the talks carry major security implications for Taraba State, which shares a vast and porous border with Cameroon, and for Nigeria’s broader quest to combat transnational crimes and insurgency.
The meeting is being hailed as a significant diplomatic stride toward consolidating regional stability and fortifying bilateral cooperation. Authorities from both sides expressed optimism that the renewed collaboration would improve security coordination and contribute to lasting peace in the region.
