
The Taraba State Government has approved the establishment of a Technical Committee to drive the creation of the proposed Taraba State University of Tropical Agriculture, Science, Technology and Climate Action in Gembu.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, December 1, 2025, by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Barr. Gebon Timothy Kataps.
According to the statement, Governor Agbu Kefas approved the constitution of the committee as part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening higher education and expanding academic opportunities in agriculture, technology and climate innovation.
The committee is composed of seasoned academics and representatives from key ministries. The members include:

Prof. Ali Jafaru – Member

Representative, Ministry of Agriculture – Member

Kataps said the committee is expected to commence work immediately to lay the groundwork for the new institution, which aims to enhance access to quality education, promote research and drive innovation in climate-resilient agriculture and technology.
He added that the initiative reflects the state government’s vision to position Taraba as a hub for sustainable development and specialised academic training.
