The Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) in Salihu Dogo, Jalingo, Taraba State, has been embroiled in controversy as the principal, Haruna Joshua Assembo, and Examination Officer, Ezekiel Rimamsikwe, have been suspended following allegations of selling West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) and National Examination Certificate (NECO) forms to external candidates for personal gain.
The suspension, as detailed in a letter from the State Ministry of Education, was prompted by concerns of undermining the free education policy championed by Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas.
Both exams were intended to be provided free of charge to all students in the state, with the government having allocated funds for the payment of WAEC and NECO fees to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians amidst economic challenges.
An investigative committee has been established by the Ministry to delve into the alleged misconduct and ascertain the extent of involvement of the suspended officials.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Principal, Administration, has been tasked with overseeing the school’s operations, while the Examination Officer has been instructed to hand over his duties to a competent individual pending the investigation’s outcome.
