Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, on Monday received the Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Dickon Mitchell, at the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo, in what has been described as a historic diplomatic visit aimed at strengthening international cooperation and development.
The Grenadian leader’s courtesy visit is part of a broader effort to build strategic partnerships between Grenada and Nigeria, with particular interest in exploring opportunities within Taraba State.
Governor Kefas welcomed Prime Minister Mitchel with full state protocol and later hosted him at the Executive Council Chamber of the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, where high-level discussions were held.
Speaking during the meeting, Prime Minister Mitchell noted that the visit was a strategic move to enhance collaboration in key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, trade, and investment.
“This is more than a ceremonial visit; it is about laying the groundwork for sustainable partnerships. We are here to identify areas where both Grenada and Taraba State can benefit mutually from cooperation,” Mitchell stated.
He further disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would be signed to formalise commitments in various areas of development.
Governor Kefas expressed optimism that the partnership would unlock new economic opportunities for Taraba State, especially in tourism and agribusiness, where the state holds significant potential.
“Taraba is open for business and collaboration. This visit is a testament to our growing recognition on the global stage and our readiness to work with international partners for the benefit of our people,” Kefas said.
The visit is expected to pave the way for future engagements, including cultural exchanges, private sector investment, and developmental support between Grenada and Taraba State.
Observers have hailed the diplomatic move as a bold step towards positioning Taraba as a hub for international cooperation and economic innovation in Nigeria’s North-East.
