The Taraba State Government on Monday inaugurated an electronic portal for filing criminal cases via the Nigerian Case Management System, marking a major step towards digitising judicial processes in the state.
The launch ceremony, held in Jalingo, was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps, who represented Governor Agbu Kefas. Kataps described the initiative as a historic milestone that underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening institutions, deepening the rule of law, and promoting effective governance.
“This e-filing initiative, the first of its kind in Taraba State, is a foundational step towards the full deployment of a comprehensive case management framework within the High Court,” Kataps said. He further emphasized the government’s support for modernising the judiciary and noted that technology is critical for achieving swift, fair, and transparent justice.
The Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya, hailed the move as a proactive transition from manual court operations to a modern, technology-driven system. According to Justice Agya, the e-filing portal allows for electronic submission of originating processes and subsequent applications, enhances case tracking from filing to final determination, and reduces delays caused by manual registry procedures.
He added that the system would improve the security, integrity, and accessibility of court records, while promoting better docket management and time efficiency for judges. Justice Agya stressed that the platform is designed to support judicial decision-making without replacing it.
Also speaking, the Chief Judge of Borno State, Justice Kashim Zannah, described Taraba’s e-filing initiative as a welcome development, reflecting the judiciary’s willingness to embrace innovation to address long-standing administrative challenges.
The Taraba State Government affirmed its commitment to providing the necessary infrastructure and resources to sustain ongoing judicial reforms, with the goal of ensuring faster, more efficient delivery of justice across the state.
