A toll-free hotline to report violations of religious freedom has been launched in Taraba State.
The hotline, 080-0000-2233, was introduced on Saturday during the screening of Bridging the Abyss, a film advocating for peace, in Jalingo, the state capital.
Habiba Gazali, Senior Project Officer for Search for Common Ground (SFCG), said the initiative aims to promote religious tolerance and protect residents who may be targeted because of their faith.
Gazali said SFCG has trained lawyers and human rights defenders to handle reported cases and assured residents that their safety is prioritized.
“This hotline will support early reporting and response to religious freedom violations in Taraba and across Nigeria,” Gazali said.
Also speaking, the Taraba Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, Yakubu Musa, urged law enforcement to uphold Section 38 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution, which guarantees the right to freely practice religion.
The event, supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was attended by security personnel, religious leaders, civil society groups, and government officials.
