Taraba Police Command, Military Rescue Five Kidnap Victims in Wukari

The Taraba State Police Command, in a joint operation with the military, has successfully rescued five persons who were abducted by armed criminals along the Wukari–Zaki Biam Road on Oct. 2.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP James Lashan Saminu, the victims were kidnapped at Kasuwan Shanu around 10:10 p.m. on Thursday by unknown gunmen who intercepted a red Toyota Carina II with registration number BSA 766AE.

The vehicle, driven by one Terna Gbaya, was carrying seven passengers when the assailants stopped it and forcefully led the occupants into the nearby bush.

“On 2/10/2025 at about 10:35hrs, a distress call was received indicating that a red Toyota Carina II, en route Zaki Biam, was intercepted by armed men who abducted the passengers,” the statement read.

Following the alert, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Wukari swiftly mobilised officers and, in collaboration with the military, launched a rescue operation. The team engaged the kidnappers in a hot pursuit, which led to the release and rescue of five victims.

The rescued victims are:

1. Musa Adamu (male) – Tella, Gassol LGA, Taraba State

2. Rose Sor (female) – Kyuwande LGA, Benue State

3. Lydia Vyiashima (female) – Kwanshishi LGA, Benue State

4. Comfort Iyofar (female) – Vasse, Wukari

5. Terna Gbaya (male) – Zaki-Biam

Efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, psc, mnips, commended the swift response and bravery of the officers involved in the operation.

She reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and assured residents that the police will continue to intensify efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
