The Taraba State Police Command has intensified efforts to track down and apprehend those responsible for the recent attack on Bandawa Gwenzu community in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state.
In an interview with our correspondent, the Acting Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP James Lashen, confirmed that several houses were set ablaze during the attack. However, he noted that no casualties were recorded.
ASP Lashen assured the public that the police are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice, adding that strategic security measures have been put in place to prevent further attacks.
He disclosed that during a search operation at the scene, the police recovered a First Aid bag and a Tecno phone suspected to belong to the attackers. He said the recovered items would aid ongoing investigations and help in identifying the suspects.
The command expressed deep concern over the recurring violence in Karim Lamido and appealed to all parties involved to embrace peace for the sake of the community’s stability and development.
“No nation can make progress in an atmosphere of discord,” ASP Lashen said.
To bolster security in the affected area, the police have deployed additional Mobile Police personnel to Karim Lamido, aimed at restoring calm and preventing further criminal activities.
According to the police spokesperson, a distress call was made to the Karim Lamido Division when the attack began, prompting the immediate deployment of a team of 40 Mobile Police officers to Bandawa Gwenzu. However, he said the attackers had already fled the scene before the operatives arrived.
ASP Lashen called on residents of Bandawa and its environs to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of the attackers.
He also noted that the latest incident follows several failed attempts by suspected Fulani herdsmen to carry out attacks in the area—efforts that were previously thwarted by the prompt intervention of security personnel.
Investigations are ongoing.
