Residents of Mallam Joda, a community in Jalingo metropolis, Taraba, have appealed to Gov. Agbu Kefas for the urgent rehabilitation of their main access road.
The residents described the road as severely damaged, posing threats to lives and livelihoods.
In a letter signed by Al-Emran Alhassan on behalf of the community and addressed to the Government House in Jalingo, the residents highlighted the road’s condition, citing deep potholes, erosion, and partial collapse.
They warned that continued neglect could worsen the economic and social challenges facing the area.
“The hazardous state of the road has increased the risk of accidents, resulting in injuries, property damage and frequent delays,” the letter stated.
The residents said the poor road condition had disrupted local business activities and made access to health and educational services difficult.
They also noted that farmers in the area were experiencing post-harvest losses due to the challenges in transporting goods to markets, while emergency response services, including ambulances, faced delays.
Despite repeated appeals to the local government, they said no significant intervention had been made.
The residents urged the state government to dispatch engineers for proper assessment and to initiate a comprehensive rehabilitation plan.
They also called for adequate funding, transparency and supervision to ensure quality delivery of the project.
“We believe in your leadership and are hopeful that you will act to relieve the suffering of the Mallam Joda community,” they said.
