Taraba Sets Up Committee to Oversee Government House Expansion, Eyes Tea Industry Boost

The Taraba State Government has constituted a high-powered committee to oversee the expansion of the Government House, in a move aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency and strengthening security around the seat of power.

The committee is chaired by former Governor of the state, Rev. Jolly Nyame, and is saddled with the responsibility of preventing congestion and encroachment, which could compromise the security and operational effectiveness of the premises.

Announcing the development, the state government said the committee will also oversee the recovery of all government-owned properties in and around the Government House, while ensuring proper documentation of assets.

According to the state government, the decision to expand the existing Government House rather than relocate was informed by security and logistical considerations.

Meanwhile, Governor Agbu Kefas has received the report of a delegation led by the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Kizito Bonzena, following an official visit to a tea factory in Kenya.

The visit is part of the state’s broader plan to revamp the tea and coffee value chain in collaboration with Kenya and other countries with advanced processing systems.

The governor described the initiative as a “good deal” for Taraba State and expressed commitment to exploiting opportunities in the sector to benefit local farmers and boost the state’s economy.

He also revealed that Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has shown interest in supporting efforts to rebrand Taraba’s flagship Highland Tea and promote it to global markets.

“We are determined to develop the state’s tea factories and ensure their expansion, in line with the recommendations of the committee,” Governor Kefas said.

The twin initiatives, the government added, align with the administration’s vision to promote security, economic development, and effective governance across Taraba State.
