Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has revealed plans to establish minimum qualification requirements for primary and secondary school teachers in the state, aiming to enhance the quality of education provided to students.
The governor made this announcement during the joint convocation ceremonies of the Federal University Wukari on Saturday, emphasizing the importance of having well-educated teachers to guide and inspire learners effectively.
Under the proposed guidelines, primary school teachers will be mandated to hold a university degree, while secondary school teachers must possess at least a master’s degree to ensure a higher level of expertise in the teaching profession.
Governor Kefas also highlighted the government’s commitment to offering additional training opportunities for teachers to update their skills and knowledge, ultimately benefiting the education sector as a whole.
Encouraging the graduating students to consider a career in teaching, the governor emphasized the significant impact educators can have on shaping the future through quality education delivery.
In response to the governor’s initiative, Professor Jude Samani Rabo, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Wukari, praised the dedication of the university staff in preparing graduates with the necessary knowledge and competencies.
He expressed gratitude to the state government for its continuous support, including the provision of a teaching hospital and land donations to the institution, underscoringthe collaborative efforts to advance education in Taraba State.
