Teenager killed in Maiduguri gang clash, police arrest seven suspects

An 18-year-old boy, Bakura Muhammed, was killed during a violent clash between rival youth gangs in Maiduguri on Friday.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the Ajari and Tashan Lara neighbourhoods of the Borno State capital.

Bakura was said to have sustained a fatal stab wound to the abdomen during the fracas, which involved multiple youths.

He was rushed by operatives of the Borno State Police Command to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

A police source told our correspondent that seven suspects, aged between 15 and 24, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The suspects include Ba’abba Kyari (20), Ali Alhaji GoniAli (20), Muhammed Audu (18), Ali Isa (15), Adam Sabir (15), Mohammed Tujja (17), and Usman Kasim (24).

“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who fled the scene,” the source said.

Bakura’s remains have been deposited in the hospital morgue for autopsy and will be released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The Borno State Police Command has assured residents that it will intensify efforts to combat youth violence and ensure the safety of lives and property.
