Theatre Commander Boosts Troop Welfare, Commissions Solar Powered Borehole

In an effort to enhance troops’ welfare in the North East (NE) theatre of operations, the  Theatre Commander Join Task force NE  Operation HADIN KAI, Maj Gen W Shuaibu, on 14 May 2024, commissioned a solar powered borehole at the Nigeria Police Camp, located at 333 Artilary Regiment Barracks Njimtilo, Maiduguri.

Speaking during the ceremony, Gen Shaibu said, the event underscored one of the cardinal tenets of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen TA Lagbaja’s administration, which he noted, was the prioritization of the welfare of troops and their families.

He added that the idea behind the project, was to ensure accessible water in Njimtilo camp for own troops and other sisters agencies, emphasising that it would ease the water needs of soldiers and other security agencies in the environment.

He further averred that the construction of the water source, was one of the non-kinetic measures by the Nigerian Army. Gen Shaibu thanked the COAS for ensuring that the welfare and well-being of troops were given priority.

In his welcome address,  the Nigeria Police Coordinator, Brig Gen OO Yakubu, said the occasion marked a significant milestone in the Special Forces Mobile Police Camp Njimtilo, stressing that the construction of the borehole, was borne out of the need to compliment government efforts in resolving water challenges around troops and host communities.

He added that water was a fundamental human need, essential for life and well-being, hence, the need to build the Borehole.

The event featured tour of the facility, group photograph and address to MOPOL personnel.
