Three Injured in Ammunition Explosion at Blacksmith’s Workshop in Buni Yadi

Three persons sustained injuries following an explosion caused by live ammunition at a blacksmith’s workshop in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Insight Northeast gathered that the incident occurred at about 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Baba Ali Blacksmith’s workshop.

The explosion was triggered when a 22-year-old man, who had picked up one live AA round and four AK-47 rounds from the bush while fetching firewood, attempted to open one of the rounds to examine its contents.

A 14-year-old boy, the blacksmith’s son, reportedly tried to dissuade him, but the man proceeded to strike the ammunition with a hammer, setting off the blast.

Three persons, aged 14, 20, and 22, sustained injuries in the explosion, with one suffering a fracture while the others sustained bruises.

The victims were promptly evacuated to Yobe State Specialist Hospital, Buni Yadi, for medical treatment.

Authorities have warned residents against handling unexploded ordnance or live ammunition, emphasizing the dangers posed by explosive remnants of war (ERW) in conflict-affected areas.
