Tinubu Approves Free Train Rides for Nigerians During Festive Season

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved free train rides nationwide from December 20, 2024, to January 5, 2025. The initiative aims to reduce transportation costs for Nigerians during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press briefing on Monday following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Tinubu at the State House.

According to Idris, the measure is intended to cushion the financial burden of travel during the festive season, particularly for vulnerable citizens. “This is part of the federal government’s efforts to alleviate transportation challenges and ensure that Nigerians can connect with loved ones during the holidays,” he said.

The free train service will cover all operational routes managed by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), including the Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Kaduna, and Itakpe-Warri corridors, among others.
