President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has commended the Yobe State Government for its significant investment in agriculture, describing it as a strategic step toward ensuring food security and economic resilience.
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Political and Other Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, at the launch of the 2025 Yobe State Agricultural Empowerment Programme in Damaturu on Wednesday, the President lauded the state’s commitment to improving agricultural productivity.
“This initiative aligns perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government,” Masari said. “It is a bold demonstration of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s dedication to improving the livelihood of his people through sustainable agriculture.”
He assured of the Federal Government’s continued partnership with Yobe State to promote food sufficiency and enhance agricultural development.
In his remarks, Governor Buni said the state had made considerable investments in modern farming tools and inputs, adding that security improvement across the state had enabled farmers to return to their farmlands.
“We are now witnessing significant improvement in security, which has given our farmers access to their farms,” Buni stated. “This development has renewed hope in rural productivity and economic recovery.”
The governor expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in enhancing national security.
“The commitment of your administration to security is no doubt yielding the desired results, with our communities now enjoying improved access to farmlands,” he said.
Governor Buni announced that the state government had procured and will distribute the following agricultural inputs and equipment:
40 Massey Ferguson tractors
1,961 Power tillers
1,250 Hand push planters

“In line with our policy to promote agricultural development in the state, I hereby direct that these machines, equipment and inputs be distributed free to deserving farmers,” Buni declared. “Additionally, there will be a 50 per cent subsidy on the sale of fertilizer.”
The governor noted that over 90 per cent of Yobe’s population is involved in farming activities, either in crop or livestock production, stressing the importance of transitioning from subsistence farming to mechanised agriculture.
Buni also highlighted his administration’s achievements in other sectors, including healthcare and education. He said that hospitals in the state have recently secured accreditation from the West African Colleges of Surgeons and Physicians for the training of specialist doctors.
“In education, our students’ performances at home and abroad have been unprecedented, reflecting the value of our sustained investment in the sector,” he added.
Governor Buni called on citizens to continue supporting government programmes aimed at rebuilding and advancing the state’s development agenda.
It would be recalled that in 2024, the Yobe State Government procured and distributed 100 tractors, solar-powered irrigation equipment, tillers, harvesters, and improved seeds to farmers across the state.
