President Bola Tinubu has directed the nation’s Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to oversee the security situation following multiple bomb attacks that left over 20 people dead and more than 100 others injured.
The attacks, reportedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, occurred simultaneously around 7:25 pm on Monday across different locations in the state.
Reacting to the incidents ahead of his historic state visit to the United Kingdom, Tinubu described the attacks as “final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil fear” and expressed condolences to the victims.
He said: “We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be. I commend the courage of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state.”
Tinubu added that additional equipment and operational support recently approved for security and intelligence agencies were already being deployed to enhance their capabilities.
He also instructed emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured and reaffirmed that “there is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety.”
The President’s directive signals a heightened security response in Maiduguri as authorities continue to track and confront terrorist elements in the region.
