Tinubu Sacks Chief of Defence Staff, Reshuffles Military Leadership

President Bola Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, appointing new Service Chiefs as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

A statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, said General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

The statement further announced the appointment of Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

It added that the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership during their tenure.

He charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement added.
