Traditional Leaders Key To Successful Military Operations – COAS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has emphasized the significant role traditional leaders play in ensuring the success of military operations.

Oluyede made the statement on Friday during a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Shehu Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, at his palace in Maiduguri.

He noted that his visit to Borno State was part of his commitment to engaging troops and boosting their morale for enhanced operational effectiveness in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.

“Traditional institutions are critical partners in our operations. Their support and collaboration greatly enhance the success of our efforts to restore peace and stability,” Oluyede said.

The COAS commended the Shehu for his enduring support for the Nigerian Army and called for sustained cooperation to achieve socio-economic growth in the region.

In his response, the Shehu of Borno expressed his gratitude for the military’s sacrifices and reaffirmed the commitment of traditional leaders and the people of Borno to supporting security forces.

“Borno State has always been a land of peace and harmony. We deeply regret the disruptions caused by insurgency, but we remain optimistic about the total eradication of terrorism and the restoration of normalcy,” he said.

The Shehu pledged that traditional institutions would continue to work closely with the military to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens.
