Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Operation HADIN KAI have disrupted a major Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics movement, neutralising scores of terrorists during a coordinated ambush in Sojiri and Kayamla communities of Borno State.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence indicating that more than 100 Boko Haram terrorists were converging in the area to launch coordinated attacks on nearby communities and transport supplies to their strongholds.
Acting on the intelligence, troops, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local vigilantes, swiftly mobilised to intercept the terrorists. Contact was made at about 12:00 noon as the insurgents advanced through the area.
According to military sources, troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce and sustained firefight. During the encounter, the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, which was effectively repelled as troops applied superior firepower and maintained tactical dominance throughout the engagement.
Following the initial contact, troops carried out aggressive exploitation deep into the surrounding forest, where 21 terrorists were confirmed neutralised. Several others were believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds. Follow-on operations are ongoing to determine additional casualties and recover more items.
Items recovered during the operation include several bicycles, assorted food items, drugs and medical supplies, detergents, clothing materials, bicycle tyres, torchlights, as well as assorted weapons of different calibres and ammunition.
Troops are reported to be in high morale, with their fighting efficiency described as strong and unwavering.
The successful operation underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven and joint security efforts in degrading terrorist networks and disrupting their logistics and sustainment capabilities in the North-East.
