Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and Operation Zafin Wuta, have arrested a suspected kidnapper in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The suspect, identified as Umar Musa Geyi, was apprehended on November 22, 2025, at the Jandei–Kulamu area of Wukari while allegedly negotiating a N20 million ransom with relatives of an abducted victim.
Army spokesperson, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, said Geyi had long been on the wanted list of security agencies and is believed to be part of a kidnapping syndicate operating within the Wukari axis.
Mohammed disclosed that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to the abduction of one Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident of Jandei–Kulala, who was kidnapped on November 13, 2025. The victim is reportedly still in captivity.
He explained that troops intercepted the suspect during a phone conversation in which he allegedly confirmed the victim’s continued captivity and demanded a N20 million ransom for his release.
According to Mohammed, the suspect is in military custody and undergoing further interrogation to aid efforts to locate the victim and dismantle the network involved.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Brigade’s resolve to flush out criminal gangs across Taraba State.
