Troops of the North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have repelled a Boko Haram attack on a community in Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
The terrorists were said to have stormed the town on Saturday night, setting houses and vehicles ablaze, including one belonging to the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF).
The Executive Chairman of Magumeri Local Government Area, Abubakar Abdulkadir Yaro, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday.
Yaro said the insurgents sneaked into the town under the cover of darkness but were forced to flee around 3 a.m. after troops responded swiftly.
“Unfortunately, some residential houses and other property were set ablaze, but no life was lost.
“Our gallant troops, supported by members of the Civilian JTF, hunters and volunteers, responded to distress calls and successfully repelled the terrorists,” he said.
He commended security operatives for their coordinated response and said normalcy was gradually returning to the community.
NAN reports that recent weeks have witnessed increased attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP elements on military and civilian targets across Borno.
The military also recorded the loss of two commanding officers during clearance operations in Bama and Damboa.
However, following weeklong operational visits by the service chiefs to the theatre, new coordinated strategies were said to have been adopted to contain the insurgents.
Troops in the theatre have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the North-East, while the military chiefs have pledged enhanced welfare and operational support for frontline personnel.
