Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on their locations in Buratai (Biu LGA) and Mallam Fatori (Abadam LGA) of Borno State, neutralising scores of insurgents and recovering assorted arms and ammunition.
In a statement released by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, the attempted attack on Buratai occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 5, when terrorists tried to infiltrate the troops’ position from multiple directions.
The troops, supported by the Air Component, responded with intense firepower, engaging the attackers in a heavy gun battle. Several bodies of terrorists were later discovered during clearance operations, along with a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
Simultaneously, another group of insurgents attempted to assault troops stationed in Mallam Fatori from different fronts. The soldiers, backed by Air Component Command (ACC) platforms, engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to flee in disarray.
“The resilient troops pursued the fleeing terrorists after hours of gun duel, neutralising scores of insurgents, while others escaped with gunshot wounds,” the statement said.
Preliminary assessments confirmed the recovery of multiple AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, and other terrorist equipment. Clearance and exploitation operations are ongoing in both areas, with continued air support from the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Command and the Air Component of OPHK.
Captain Kovangiya said the operations underscore the renewed commitment of the Theatre Command OPHK to deny terrorists any freedom of action across the North East.
“The coordinated efforts between the ground troops and air assets once again demonstrate our unrelenting resolve to dismantle terrorist capabilities and ensure peace in the region,” he added.
Operation HADIN KAI remains on high alert and continues its mission to restore normalcy in conflict-affected communities in the region.
