Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralised 16 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in a swift and coordinated operation in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Maiduguri.
Nwachukwu said the operation occurred at about 1:00 a.m. when troops sighted a group of terrorists attempting to launch an attack on a military location.
He said the troops engaged the terrorists with sustained indirect fire, prompting the swift deployment of air support to reinforce the ground operation.
“After about two hours of intense engagement, the terrorists suffered heavy casualties and were forced to retreat.
“Sixteen terrorists were neutralised, while others fled with injuries. Troops have since launched a pursuit operation to track down the fleeing insurgents,” he said.
Nwachukwu added that during the exchange of fire, an ammunition storage area was hit, but the situation was quickly brought under control with no further escalation.
He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring peace in the North-East and urged residents to continue to support the military with credible information.
