Troops Neutralise Bandit, Recover Weapons In Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have intensified efforts to rid Taraba State of criminal elements under the ongoing Operation LAFIYAN JAMAA, achieving notable successes in recent engagements.

In a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Capt. Olubodunde Oni, the Army disclosed that on May 3, 2025, troops conducted a precision operation around Gafar Village in Ussa Local Government Area, following credible intelligence on the activities of armed bandits in the area.

The village, identified as a notorious crossing point used by criminals to terrorise locals and steal motorcycles and other valuables, was cordoned off by troops who engaged the bandits in a fierce firefight. One of the criminals was neutralised during the exchange, while troops recovered one AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen from a civilian.

In a separate incident on the same day, troops responded swiftly to intelligence on the movement of suspected bandits reportedly transiting from Tongo and Garin Alkali in Adamawa State en route to Shana community in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The operation led the troops to Yunkunssu Forest, where contact was established with the suspects. Outgunned and overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, the bandits fled in disarray, abandoning their equipment.

During the post-engagement exploitation, troops recovered one locally fabricated revolver, one AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

“These operations underscore the unwavering commitment of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS to ensuring the safety and security of law-abiding citizens across Taraba State,” the statement read.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its appeal to residents to support ongoing military efforts by providing timely and credible information that would aid in identifying and dismantling criminal networks threatening peace and stability in the region
