Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have intensified their operations against criminal elements in Taraba State, neutralising two terrorists and destroying several bandits’ camps under the ongoing “Operation Lafiyan Jamaa.”
The operations, which were carried out based on credible intelligence, took place on April 14 between Mayokan and Bondogri villages in Bali Local Government Area, according to a statement released in Jalingo by Captain Oni Olubodunde, Assistant Spokesperson of the Brigade.
During a firefight around Garbatau, Garin Hamidu, Bandaguri, and Mayokan communities, troops engaged suspected terrorists, killing two, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, four rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a single-barrel Dane gun, 27 arrows, and six cutlasses.
In a separate clearance patrol in Ibi Local Government Area, soldiers targeted suspected bandit hideouts near Yamiri village in Sarkin Kudu Ward. The troops were said to have overrun the camp after the criminals fled upon sighting them.
Items recovered at the scene included a military woodland camouflage uniform and a Bible. The camp was subsequently dismantled and destroyed.
Commending the soldiers for their efforts, Commander of the Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the Army’s determination to restore lasting peace in the state.
He urged residents to support military operations by providing timely and credible information.
“We remain resolute in our mission to safeguard lives and property. The 6 Brigade will not relent until all criminal elements are flushed out of Taraba,” General Uwa stated.
