Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Jalingo, have recovered a cache of arms during a raid on a bandits’ hideout in Ikyaior village, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, conducted on Saturday along the Taraba/Benue border, followed credible intelligence on the activities of armed criminals in the area.
Lt. Umar Mohammed, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, disclosed this in a statement issued in Jalingo on Sunday.
He said the troops acted on intelligence that one suspect, identified as “Full Fire,” was allegedly harbouring criminals at Sabon-Gida Leke, Ikyaior village.
“Although no suspect was found at the location, a thorough search of the area led to the recovery of several arms and related items,” he stated.
According to him, the items recovered include three AK-47 magazines, three FN rifle magazines, three rifle slings, two FN rifle breech blocks and slides, one AK-47 firing mechanism, two FN rifle stocks, two FN rifle springs, one mini-telescopic sight, one AK-47 rifle butt, one FN rifle bag, one badminton bag, two charms and one flashlight.
The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism.
He assured residents of Taraba that the brigade would sustain operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
