Troops rescue kidnapped woman in Taraba

Troops of Sub-Sector 3B under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued a kidnapped woman during a search-and-rescue operation in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops, deployed at Kufai Amadu in Takum LGA, received intelligence at about 1:13 p.m. on Friday regarding a kidnapping incident at Torikegha village in Chanchanji Ward.

According to the sources, the victim, identified as Mrs Iloda Ayinba, a resident of Torikegha, was abducted by suspected herdsmen while on her way to her farm. The suspects were said to be relocating from the area at the time of the incident.

Following the report, the troops immediately mobilised and moved to the village, where they launched a pursuit along the suspected withdrawal route of the kidnappers. The operation involved extensive combing of the surrounding bush and the power line corridor linking Benue and Taraba states.

“Due to the aggressive and robust search-and-rescue operation by the troops, the kidnappers abandoned the victim in the bush and fled the area,” a source said.

Mrs Ayinba was subsequently rescued unhurt, while no contact was made with the fleeing suspects during the continued exploitation of the area, the sources added.
