Troops Smash Kidnapping Syndicate, Arrest Three Suspects in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/ Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.

Acting on intelligence, troops arrested Ali Idi and Haruna Umar on Oct. 22 at a local hotel in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo. A search of their phones revealed incriminating evidence.

Further investigations led to the discovery of the gang’s hideout at Kona Mountain in Jalingo LGA. Troops apprehended the gang leader, Dahiru Idi (aka “Yellow”), on Oct. 23.

Dahiru confessed to kidnapping three individuals, extorting N6 million ransom before their release. Items recovered include three rings, one Airtel Sim card, one itel phone, Indian hemp, and charms.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander 6 Brigade, thanked the people of Taraba State for their support, emphasizing the military’s commitment to combating terrorism.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
