The Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has approved the promotion of 19 academic staff to the rank of professor.
This is contained in a statement released on Saturday by the Assistant Chief Information and Protocol Officer in the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Mrs. Nabila Dahiru-Anche.
According to the statement, the approval followed the 56th meeting of the Governing Council, which sanctioned the promotion of 113 academic staff members, effective from Oct. 1.
The meeting, held on Nov. 27, also formally received the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Senator Hadi Abubakar-Sirika.
“Among the academic staff, 19 were promoted to the rank of Professor, 20 to Reader, 31 to Senior Lecturer, 17 to Lecturer I, and 26 to Lecturer II,” the statement said.
It added that 36 staff members were converted to various cadres and upgraded to higher ranks.
The Council also approved a 100 per cent upward review of the wages of university cleaners, a decision the institution described as part of its commitment to improving staff welfare.
The statement noted that the development marks a significant milestone in the university’s drive toward academic excellence and transformative institutional growth.
It said the Pro-Chancellor, Abubakar-Sirika, pledged loyalty and cooperation while meeting with leaders of the institution’s four in-house unions, assuring them of his commitment to working closely with stakeholders to advance the university.
The Council commended the University Management for what it described as the effective and transparent manner in which the affairs of the institution are being managed.
