
A senior academic staff member of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Dani Mamman has been declared missing following a Boko Haram ambush on Friday along the Madagali–Gwoza axis.
The don, a professor in the Department of Islamic Studies and a former Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIMAID branch, was travelling from Yola after attending an ASUU zonal meeting when the incident occurred.
According to reports, the commercial vehicle conveying him and other passengers was attacked by suspected Boko Haram insurgents. The passengers fled into the bush during the ambush, and there has been no information on his whereabouts since then. His mobile phone has also remained unreachable.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. We are soliciting prayers for divine intervention for him and all passengers involved,” a family source said.
Security agencies have not released an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report. Search efforts are ongoing.
