UNIMAID Shines at 27th NUGA Games, Records Multiple Victories and Medals

The University of Maiduguri has continued its impressive showing at the ongoing 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) holding at the University of Jos, Plateau State.

In a series of outstanding performances, UNIMAID athletes have displayed remarkable skill, determination, and teamwork across various sporting events.

In the male handball event, the team recorded a hard-fought 16–15 victory over Justum University in a thrilling encounter that kept spectators on edge till the final whistle.

The university’s Judo contingent also excelled, with Promise Ojikpe clinching a Gold Medal in the –63 kg category, while Hauwa Ishaku earned a Bronze Medal in the +78 kg heavyweight division.

UNIMAID’s basketball team maintained its dominant form, advancing to the quarterfinals after an impressive run in the preliminary rounds.

The tennis team continued the winning streak, defeating Gombe State University in the men’s doubles to qualify for the quarterfinals scheduled for today. In the men’s singles, UNIMAID’s Rubi Toba Kefas advanced after defeating Caleb Kayo of the Nigerian Army University, Biu. However, in the women’s singles, Blessing Onah recorded a mixed result — defeating Gombe State University’s representative before losing to Priye Maxwell of the University of Port Harcourt.

In the Taekwondo and Judo categories, the university added to its medal haul. The female Poomsae team won a Bronze Medal, while UNIMAID also bagged Gold in the 62 kg female category and Bronze in the +87 kg male division.

Overall, the University of Maiduguri continues to demonstrate sporting excellence, resilience, and team spirit, solidifying its position as one of the leading contenders at the 27th NUGA Games.
