A call for urgent intervention has been made to the Adamawa State Government over the worsening water crisis in Duwa Gari, a community in Gombi Local Government Area, where residents are grappling with severe hardship due to the lack of access to clean drinking water.
In a letter addressed to the government on Thursday, Comrade Yakubu Markus Duwa, a concerned indigene of the community, appealed for immediate assistance to alleviate the suffering of the people.
“I write to you today with a heavy heart, as I witness the dire situation in Duwa Gari, Gombi Local Government. The people of this community are facing a desperate struggle for survival due to the lack of access to clean water,” the letter stated.
Duwa emphasized that the absence of potable water in the area is exposing residents to the risk of waterborne diseases and malnutrition, stressing that water remains a basic human right essential for survival.
He noted that Duwa Gari has a population of over 5,000 people, all of whom are currently dependent on unsafe water sources for their daily needs. According to him, the situation poses a serious public health risk and demands the urgent attention of the authorities.
“As a government, you have the power and the responsibility to protect and support your citizens. Please consider allocating resources and implementing sustainable solutions that will provide long-term access to clean water for the people of Duwa Gari,” he appealed.
The community, through Duwa, urged the state government to consider the plight of its residents and provide durable water infrastructure that would ensure regular and safe water supply.
Efforts to reach officials from the Adamawa State Ministry of Water Resources for comments were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
